Welcome back to the unhelpful parenting podcast where we are laughing through another week of parent fails, funny kid moments and a this or that quiz from SAM instead of Bec for a change.
We kick the episode off with our Yays and Nays (highs and lows if you’re new!). Bec braved the grocery shop with all three kids for the first time this week – something she’s been putting off for a long time but decided to suck it up and do. She survived but was left with the ‘nay’ and dilemma of how to get the kids back in the car in the most safe way. Do you leave the mobile 5yo out in the busy carpark while you put the baby in, or leave the baby and 3yo in the trolley with $300 worth of shopping while you put the mobile 5yo in first?!
Sam’s yay was finally getting to sleep without the kids in the bed, but it has meant using the parent hack of putting mattresses on the floor – so the nay is still not having space. He also nay’s the nappy stage of life and is itching for the 3yo to be toilet trained – even though Bec reminds him that we are past halfway through our nappy years!
We reflect on last week’s conversation and are reminded again of our age as someone sent in that their friends kid didn’t know what a USB is! Sam is in denial but Bec says it’s inevitable that USBs are something we are going to have to explain to our children because they’ve got the cloud.
Sam’s back with his dad jokes and memes he’s found on social media and we are Olympics themed and talking about our wardrobes and how we hold onto the ‘just in case’ clothes we might fit again.
The confessional is wild this week, with 3 new stories. We have:
- A mum who’s kid throws her under the bus and tells her friend what she says about her messy house in private.
-A toilet training boy who was sure everyone at the zoo needed to see his willy and
-A son who made a scene at the shops and gave everyone the wrong impression that he didn’t have his own toothbrush and had to share!
Then Sam takes over and does his first go at wish or want, which is a this or that, that he ends up calling real or fake (you’ll have to watch and listen for that to make sense!). He’s got a list of baby products that are so wild, but half are real-life products and half are ones he made up (with a few potential mum business ideas thrown in!). Bec gets most of them right, but it’s still full of laughs as we can’t believe some of these products exist!
