Our Editor's Take

The Malevolent horror podcast is an audio drama with an exciting distinction. The show's community can choose the direction of the narrative. After each episode, there are choices for the listeners to make. Should the main character run or hide? What happens if he looks into the basement? And what happens if he doesn't?

Malevolent is the creation of Harlan Guthrie, a writer, voice actor, and producer. He brings his sound design experience, creating a soundtrack that invites the listener into the story. The narration features inspiration from the Lovecraft genre, named after the 1920s horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. Cthulhu Mythos is the name for encompassing Lovecraft's key narrative traits. The story continues to reveal cosmic horrors in the world around Arthur. He must try to understand the mystery surrounding him.

The podcast began in 2020, so listeners can enjoy plenty of the Malevolent story. It starts with a male voice questioning where he is and why he can't see. Out of the darkness, an eerie voice starts to talk to him. It says it will tell him everything he needs to know, starting with his name-Arthur Lester.

As the voice starts to tell Arthur what to do, it becomes angry when Arthur doesn't follow as instructed. It calls him a friend yet tells him his whimpering is a distraction, and starts to shout. When Arthur trips over something that feels like a body, the voice confirms his suspicion. It reveals its identity: it's his partner!

The story is intriguing and mysterious after only ten minutes into the first episode. Listeners will learn what is happening with Arthur and all with the help of the suspicious voice. This nameless voice is Arthur's eyes, guiding him and directing him. Can Arthur trust it? Or has it got a more sinister purpose?

The Malevolent podcast is a haven for followers of Lovecraftian stories. It follows Private Investigator Arthur Lester as he tries to understand who he can trust. Mystery blends with intrigue as listeners unravel the truth alongside Arthur.
