PUCL: A Pokemon Podcast is more than a show. It is a community. The podcast has been around since December 31, 2007, making it one of the longest-lived podcasts out there. It started with two friends, Cool Trainer Thatch and Professor Sycamore. The show grew and changed over the years. Professor Sycamore left and a rotating cast of guest hosts took his place. The community has grown and now has an active Discord server.
Thatch and friends record a new podcast episode every week. Most of the episodes follow the same structure. The show begins with that week's news. In this segment, Thatch might share rumors about the new Nintendo Switch. Listeners learned when Mario Odyssey moved up to number one in popularity, beating Pokemon Sword and Shield. The hosts announce any upcoming Pokemon Direct events. They also discuss the popular Pokemon Go app.
After the news comes the quiz. Thatch and his podcast cohosts play a trivia game. Of course, the questions are all about Pokemon. Since all the players are megafans, the questions are often difficult and esoteric. Most of the questions are fan submissions from the show's Discord server. What Pokemon type was the last to receive a monotype Pokemon in the national dex? In Generation I, which Pokemon could one find on the gym statues?
After the quiz, the cohosts move on to that week's topic. For this segment, they make predictions about Pokemon Presents. They discuss new Pokemon. They rank battle styles. Then it's time for the "Pokemon of the Week" segment. Every week, Thatch picks out a Pokemon for the podcast. He discusses its attributes with the guest. Finally, the cohosts open the mailbag. Listeners share their own stories and experiences related to Pokemon.
PUCL: A Pokemon Podcast might be a great choice for Pokemon fans. People who are new to the games might also find it to contain a wealth of useful information.
