HAPPY BELTANE!
May 1st: BELTANE: Honoring Nature's spring energy!
We just celebrated Earth’s day and now it’s Beltane.
What is Beltane?
Beltane, or Gaelic May Day Festival, is a Celtic neo-pagan tradition that originated in Ireland, and Scotland. It is the midway point between spring and summer, the midpoint between spring equinox and summer solstice.
Beltane is a Gaelic term that means "bright fire", Beltane ceremonies include bonfires, symbols of protection. It was also believed that the fires on this day brought warmth to those who were celebrating, (as the sun becomes warmer at this time of the year). The purpose of these fire rituals was to protect the animals, crops, and people, as well as to promote growth.
Beltane honors Mother Nature, her gifts, her richness, especially in Springtime. Beltane is a celebration of life, energy, joy, fertility, love, vitality, youthfulness, renewal, new beginnings, awakening, and abundance as this period is the most fertile of the year. During the Beltane celebrations, the God and Goddess of spring were also honored.
How to celebrate Beltane nowadays?
There are many ways to celebrate, you don't need to be pagan to observe Beltane. If it’s resonating with you and if you feel called to celebrate, there are simple things you can do:
- Create an Altar,
- Gather flowers,
- Dress in green and or wear “spring colors”.
- Share a May basket with flowers, gifts, and treats with family, friends, and neighbors! In France, my country of birth, on May 1st, we have the tradition to offer a bouquet or sprig of lily of the valley to our loved ones. It is also a symbol of life, health, renewal, fertility, and joy, and it smells SO good!
- Have a bonfire, (Be safe!), and have a feast with family and friends!
- I also suggest you my Ritual for Beltane...
Have a beautiful and joyful Beltane! Express your gratitude for Mother Nature and all it provides for us, express gratitude for the persons and all the blessings in your life. Admire the luxuriant beauty of Springtime with its abundance of flowers, the warmth of the Sun, more and more present, celebrate life, the renewed energies, and set your intentions for the coming period!
Beltane Blessings to you all!

(Of course, be cautious with candles, bonfires, and when you burn your intentions. Keep water around.)
