The Do Go On podcast hosts enjoy going on Wikipedia for silly, unnecessary searches. Sometimes, they find themselves enthralled by an entry at 4 a.m., even though it has no use in their everyday life. They don't want all that focused reading to go to waste. So they decided to make a podcast where they tell each other what they've learned. In the process, they also dissect all of the reasons people should care about these topics.
While the main focus of the podcast is to educate, thanks to the hosts it feels more like a comedy set than a classroom. That doesn't come as a big surprise when looking at each of their resumes. Matt Stewart received the award for the largest open-mic stand-up competition in Australia. He founded the sketch company Stupid Old Man and has been performing at packed venues since 2015. Jess Perkins is a seasoned radio host. She was a finalist at the RAW Comedy Competition and toured with the Comedy Festival roadshow. Finally, Dave Warneke is the comedy producer for the TV show The Project. He's toured with The Melbourne International Comedy Festival eleven times. Together, the three can't help but make each other laugh.
Each episode of the podcast discusses a single topic. One of the hosts prepares a well-researched oral presentation for the other two. Some subjects are fun and lighthearted, like Mary Poppins and Nicolas Cage's career. Others might be more grim, like the Apollo 13 disaster or the 1972 Olympics massacre. Still, thanks to the hosts' charming repartee and endless interruptions, the podcast never feels too serious.
As most episodes of Do Go On last well beyond two hours, it's safe to say they go off-topic quite often. Listeners who join in only for the educational value might get frustrated. Those who want to get their information with a dose of entertainment might relish the banter.
