The Psychology of your 20s is a self-help podcast for young adults. Many people can go through the same transitions and milestones in their twenties. They might finish university and find a full-time job for the first time. They might move out of their parents' house and have to navigate their finances alone. Others experience their first real heartbreak or loss of a friend circle.
These are all everyday life events, but they can be anxiety-inducing. Jemma Sbeg created this podcast to help people experiencing these often traumatic changes. She talks about the psychology behind them, hoping to help listeners feel less alone. The host also offers practical advice and tips for coping.
The host of The Psychology of your 20s considers herself a mental health advocate. Sbeg studied psychology at The Australian National University. There, she completed mental health first aid training as well. Since graduation, the host worked in several organizations supporting and empowering women. This includes The STOP Campaign, which deals with sexual assault on campuses. Sbeg doesn't have formal experience with mental health, but she makes up for it with passion. The host offers well-researched information in the podcast and often interviews experts to fill in the gaps.
The topics on the podcast range from impostor syndrome to setting boundaries. Sbeg discusses social media's influence on the brain and loneliness. There are also conversations about emotional labor, climate anxiety, and friendship breakups. The episodes are usually 30 minutes to an hour long.
On most occasions, Sbeg acts as a solo host. She speaks about articles and studies she read in preparation for the episode. Often, the host also shares personal experiences, realizations, and advice. On other occasions, she invites therapists, life coaches, and other mental health professionals. At times, there are installments where Sbeg interviews a peer in their twenties to commiserate with them.
The Psychology of Your 20s is an empathetic podcast that seeks to support and encourage. The conversations are vulnerable and open, and the goal is to promote a positive attitude. New episodes of the show come out twice a week.
