Starbuck's closes 16 locations due to concerns with employee safety which shows how critical and essential safety is for employees, customers, and the community.
Starbucks has decided to close 16 locations within the US due to employee safety concerns experienced at these locations. Starbucks is concerned about the increasing threat to employee safety experienced at locations in the following cities; Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.. Starbuck's leadership has listened to employee concerns and analyzed the safety concerns with these locations and made a decision to support employee safety and health with closure of the locations. Starbuck's is sending clear messaging that employee safety is more valuable than revenue. The cost of operating in these locations has proven costly due to the overwhelming safety concerns employees are facing from patron and non-patrons due to violence, mental health challenges, and drug additions present at the locations.
Comprehensively, Starbuck has introduced and implemented essential tenets to support its employees' safety. When organizations invest in employee safety, organizations experience increased customer loyalty, more engaged workers, improved productivity, less operational losses, and greater fiscal performance. Starbuck is not perfect regarding its prior safety performance, but it is openly committing to valuing employees' safety above anything else. Starbucks is taking the lead in supporting its most valuable assets, its employees.
