Our Editor's Take

The 1001 Songs That Make You Want To Die podcast is not about depressing tunes. Instead, it talks about songs that the hosts love to hate.

The hosts started their comedic podcast in 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hundreds of episodes later, they are still finding songs to complain about. This show mixes music and comedy. The hosts' knowledge of music lends credibility to their humor here.

1001 Songs That Make You Want To Die is a hit list of sorts. The hosts use a profane word that rhymes with hit" to describe their list. The songs they rip include Zac Brown's "Chicken Fried" and Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much."

One episode discusses LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem." The band's two main members were the son and grandson of Motown's Berry Gordy Jr. The hosts describe the group as being "born into an empire of greatness" and "gifted every opportunity possible." They say that the two men were "surrounded by talent beyond belief since birth." Yet instead of becoming musical geniuses, they created this silly one-hit wonder.

In some episodes, the hosts review old Grammy ceremonies. They share which artists they think should have won, sparking fascinating debates. The hosts mock the Grammys awarding Steely Dan the Album of the Year honor in 2001. The podcast thinks that award was decades too late. In addition, Steely Dan beat out Radiohead's Kid A and Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP. Both albums are still better remembered than Steely Dan's Two Against Nature is.

For some episodes, the show has special guests to join in on the fun. Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" is a popular wedding song. Wedding planner Kerstyn Walsh gives her opinion of this. Comedian Bridget Epitropaki stops in for the "Wonderwalls" episode about the Oasis song. Diana McLaren is as horrified as the hosts when they find out the meaning of Nikki Webster's "Strawberry Kisses."

Let’s break it down scientifically and metaphorically:Scientifically:Approaching the Sun:As you get closer, you’ll encounter intense solar radiation and extreme heat.At roughly 1.5 million kilometres (the Sun's corona), temperatures can exceed 1 million°C, and radiation would vaporize any matter.Gravitational Effects:The Sun’s gravity is immense. Approaching it, you’d accelerate rapidly and likely be pulled into the solar plasma.Disintegration:Any object (or person) would be completely incinerated long before reaching the Sun’s surface. The intense heat would strip atoms apart, leaving only plasma—a state of matter consisting of free ions and electrons.DUBBY DUBBY is declaring WAR on big Energy! In the year 2124, the world lay in ruins, a wasteland where once-thriving cities had crumbled under the weight of both natural and man-made disasters. Amidst the desolation, two factions emerged from the chaos: the resilient humans who sought to rebuild civilization, and the enigmatic Dancers, biomechanical beings with a grace and agility that belied their deadly nature. The Dancers, created by a bygone era of technology gone awry, moved with an elegance that was both mesmerizing and lethal, their every movement a calculated strike. As humanity struggled to reclaim their lost world, the Dancers danced their intricate, deadly ballets across the ruins, clashing with humans who had adapted their survival tactics into a harsh, gritty form of combat. The conflict between the humans and the Dancers unfolded across a landscape scarred by devastation, their battles a deadly performance of strategy and artistry. In the midst of the turmoil, a fragile ceasefire emerged when a young human named Brandon discovered a shared history between the two factions hidden in ancient archives. As Brandon bridged the gap between humanity’s stubborn resolve and the Dancers’ graceful precision, his quest for peace ignited a cautious dialogue. The remnants of both sides began to see the possibility of coexistence, realizing that the war-torn world might yet be rebuilt not through domination, but through a harmonious dance of mutual respect and understanding.DUBBY DUBBY is declaring WAR on big Energy!
