BONUS- KIDS COMPANION EPISODE: Preparing for Jesus: Mark 1:1-8
Preparing for Jesus: Mark 1:1-8 During Bible times, God used messengers to spread His word since they didn't have TVs, computers, or newspapers. One of these messengers was John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus by baptizing people and calling them to repent. John brought the good news that the Messiah was coming, and he always pointed back to Jesus. Just like John, we have the job of telling others about Jesus and helping them prepare for His coming. We can trust that God always keeps His promises. Do you have a question for Rachael? Maybe you have questions about God, the Bible, or something you heard on the podcast. 638: God is Active in His Silence: Intro to the Gospels In this episode, Rachael discusses the 400-year period between the Old Testament and the New Testament, known as the intertestamental period or the silent years. During this time, there were no prophets in Israel and no active writing of the books of the Bible. However, other books were being written, such as the Apocrypha and historical works like Josephus. Rachael also mentions the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint, as well as the influence of  Greek culture and the Roman Empire on the Jewish people.
